I loved, loved, loved PINA! What I liked about the film is that it made me aware of Pina Bausch, a beyond gifted German choreographer. She is my new discovery. Director Wim Wenders presents her dance pieces in startling 3D effect, which brings the viewer right there onto stage with the dancers.
This is modern dance as I've never seen it before. Her works are uniquely stylized. They are dance poetry that capture and inspire. One is left touched to the point of wanting to embrace creativity in all its glory.
Pina was not only a choreographer, but this film will also demonstrate that she was a mentor. When allowed to share their feelings about Pina verbally, in silence or with a mere glance, it becomes clear that Bausch changed the life of many of her diverse cast of dancers. Pina was and is glory!
Pina opens on December 21 in New York (nationally in January 2012) through Sundance Selects.
