Mama's Empanadas in Jackson Heights, Queens has delicious treats! If you love empanadas and are willing to travel for food, then you've got to check out this establishment.

Empanadas, if you don't know, are basically flour patties (corn or wheat) stuffed with a variety of fillings raging from savory to sweet. At Mama's Empanadas you'll find fillings like beef, chicken, cheese, vegetable, rice and beans, sausage, chocolate and peanut butter, just to name a few. This is just a very brief mention of what they offer.

What I really like, as well, is the pricing. In Manhattan an empanada can cost as much at $3.00, what a rip-off. One beef or chicken empanada at Mama's costs $1.00. And, you have a choice of red or green dipping sauce, which comes hot or sweet.

On my visit, I opted to get the combo deal which included two empanadas and a soda for $2.50. Talk about a meal deal! One empanada was shredded beef with pieces of potatoes; the other was chicken which also included potatoes and peas and carrots.

The establishment is somewhat small with only a few areas to sit and eat, however, this is definitely not a deal breaker.
