The Sandwich Issue (#137) of
Saveur has got to be the BEST one ever. The magazine has printed many interesting issues like
The Perfect Holiday (#134),
25 Greatest Meals (#132), and
The Saveur 100 Readers' Edition (#126), but issue number 137 gets the golden star.
A sandwich is a simple, yet delicate and complex, item for consumption. Utilizing two pieces of bread (usually), filled with stuff - sometimes neatly and sometimes overflowing - one can create a masterpiece or disaster. Let's hope that it's always a masterpiece because I enjoy masterpieces.
Whether you choose to find inventive ways to make your own sandwich/sammich/sarnie (whatever you prefer to call it) or opt to purchase one, this April 2011 issue of Saveur will leave you mesmerized by the picturesque and mouthwatering sight of breads, meats, sauces, fruits, veggies and other condiments that can be brought together, to create a sandwich like you never ever fathomed.
Be adventurous! Look to the sandwich, a staple food really. I'm going to go have one right now. I'm thinking lightly toasted wheat bread, peanut butter, strawberry preserves, Nutella and shaved pieces of Galaxy milk chocolate. Yum-o-rama!
